Healthy Holidays! Will Holiday Feasts Affect Your Digestive Health?
Absolutely – unless you remain mindful of what you eat. During the holidays, we often stray from our normal dining routines and indulge in richer foods, which can significantly impact digestive health.
Welcome to the latest edition of our quarterly newsletter! As we move into the fall and early winter months filled with feasting and fun, it’s important to remember to focus on our digestive well-being. October brings somewhat cooler weather and Halloween treats, but it’s also a time to focus on liver health and health literacy. In November, as we give thanks and enjoy festive meals, we also raise awareness of diabetes and GERD. December is filled with holiday celebrations, making it more important than ever to be aware of conditions like Crohn’s, colitis, and constipation.
Liver Health and Halloween: Avoiding Scary Symptoms
October is Liver Health Month and Health Literacy Month, making it an ideal time to focus on the critical role your liver plays in overall health. The liver is responsible for detoxifying the blood, metabolizing drugs, and producing important proteins for blood clotting and other functions. Ensuring your liver stays healthy is crucial, especially as we approach the holiday season with its potential for overindulgence.
Additionally, as Halloween nears, it’s worth noting that digestive issues can be truly frightening. Symptoms like sudden abdominal pain, unexplained weight loss, or persistent nausea can indicate serious problems that need immediate attention. Educating yourself about digestive health and liver care can help you avoid these spooky surprises.

Thankful for Good Health: Diabetes Awareness and Giving Thanks
Along with Thanksgiving, November is when we recognize American Diabetes Month, which is dedicated to raising awareness about the causes, diagnosis, and treatment of diabetes. Diabetes can significantly impact digestive health, leading to conditions like gastroparesis, which slows food movement of food from the stomach to the intestines. Early diagnosis and proper management are key to preventing complications.
This month, we also thank our dedicated team, who tirelessly support your journey to better health. From November 19-25, we observe National GERD Awareness Week, highlighting the importance of recognizing and treating GERD. GERD, or gastroesophageal reflux disease, can lead to more severe conditions if left untreated, and in some cases, surgery may be required to correct it.

Season’s Greetings: Digestive Health During the Holidays
December is a time for celebration, but it’s also important to be aware of chronic digestive conditions. Crohn’s Disease and Ulcerative Colitis, both forms of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), can cause severe symptoms like abdominal pain, diarrhea, and weight loss. Understanding these conditions and their treatments can help manage symptoms and improve your quality of life.
December is also Constipation Awareness Month. Constipation is more than just an inconvenience – it can lead to significant discomfort and other health issues if not properly managed. Staying hydrated, eating a fiber-rich diet, and regular exercise can help keep your digestive system functioning smoothly during the holiday festivities.
