About

Dr. Jody Berner was born and raised on Long Island, just outside New York City. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Harper College at the State University of New York in Binghamton, graduating Phi Beta Kappa with honors. He then went on to obtain his MD degree from the University of Rochester, after which he returned to New York City for his postgraduate training. Following his internship and residency at Beth Israel Medical Center, he became board-certified in Internal Medicine in 1990 and chose to pursue advanced training as a digestive specialist.

During his Gastroenterology Fellowship at Mount Sinai Medical Center and the Bronx Veterans Hospital, Dr. Berner became involved in research focusing on new endoscopic technologies, pharmaceuticals, colitis, and liver disease. His particular interest in liver disease led him to pursue an additional year of training in liver disease, transplant medicine, and biliary endoscopy through a Hepatology Fellowship at Mount Sinai. He received his initial Board Certification in Gastroenterology in 1993 and subsequently relocated with his wife to Clearwater, where he entered private practice. Dr. Berner has been a member of the medical staff at Morton Plant Hospital since then and has served on various committees.

In addition to receiving multiple awards, he has been honored with distinctions from several professional societies, including being named a Fellow of the American Gastroenterological Association and a Fellow of the American College of Gastroenterology. Dr. Berner and his wife have actively participated in school boards and committees, religious organizations, charitable societies, and the arts. Most importantly, they have been heavily involved with numerous sports teams and activities with their three boys.
